Dragon Quest is a great RPG series and chances are you are familiar with it. This IP might not be as big as Final Fantasy, but the series has won throughout the years. One game that stands out if you want to make games for the PlayStation 4 is the Dragon Quest Builders series. This is a game series that acts much like our previous title in this list, Minecraft. There are two games but they act similarly but for this list we will only focus on the first title. Dragon Quest Builders takes place in a parallel universe of the first Dragon Quest game. In the title, it focuses on the hero of Dragon Quest agreeing to a deal with the antagonist to divide the world into two kingdoms, each with one side to rule. However, it was a trap and the whole world was taken over, leaving only rot and destruction.
Now the monsters run rampant, but luckily a new hero steps up to rebuild the world. Players take on the role of a new builder who needs to acquire different resources and build the land. You'll build bases and rooms, while expanding into new areas. However, there are also a multitude of monsters to fight. Players will find that this game has a day and night cycle, so during the day you will have weaker monsters to fight while at night the monsters increase in difficulty. They will not only be a problem for you, but also for the buildings you have built. As mentioned, there's a sequel that follows the events of Dragon Quest II, but the title is quite similar, so if you find Dragon Quest Builders fun, chances are you'll enjoy the sequel just as much.
#8 Frostpunk
Frostpunk is a city builder with many strategies needed for players to progress through the game. The game centers around another year 1886 where the world faces a volcanic winter. The temperatures are fatal outside and if humanity wishes to live, they will have to plan carefully. In the game, you play as a leader who has ventured into a new area with a group of survivors. You'll set up camp around a giant generator that spits out heat but requires coal. This is where the game opens where you will send out workers to gather resources and slowly build the area up to be a safe haven during this winter storm. Here you will have to take care of men, women and children while you build housing around the generator, acquire resources and maintain heat.
However, there are also many other areas that require improvements or the creation of buildings. In the mix, you will need to craft medical tents as well as kitchens. Then, when you send out a team to find more resources in the wild, you can find additional survivors looking for a community to join. Over time, not only do you have to manage resources, continue to grow, and monitor the well-being of your community, but there are also other moral choices to make. This includes religion and politics which all play a part in your community. If you falter too much, the community can knock you down, forcing the end of the game. Those who find this game interesting will probably also want to look into DLC releases that introduce a new storyline or obstacles.

If you're not looking for a winter tundra theme to deal with, there's Cities Skylines which is a city-building game that's been around since 2022 before finally making its way to the PlayStation 4 in 2022. However, unlike Cities Skyline, Surviving Mars is all about creating a safe habitat for colonization on Mars. In the game, we are centered on a colony living on Mars, but being this giant red planet, you will have to keep an eye on all sorts of vitals and resources to keep your group safe. For example, you will need oxygen, water and food to name just a few of the essentials.
Fortunately, you have the support of your nation's government on Earth, so from time to time you will be able to receive different resources from your homeworld. However, you only have limited space on the rocket, so knowing how to get the necessary resources on the planet is quite crucial. Building useful structures and tools for this colony to thrive is quite important here. Not to mention that there are other hazards to consider, such as freezing temperatures, dust storms, and meteors. You will soon have a balance between ensuring the survival of your group of humans and expanding the area with different useful structures.

If you like wave-based games, then 7 Days to Die is worth checking out. Now the game is in early access and there is quite a mixed reception on this game with fans who love this game as well as those who find it too gross to be enjoyable. That said, this is a base-building game where you must establish a fort to oppose the hordes of undead. The game features six days to build a base, gather resources, and prepare for day seven when the game will send a massive horde your way.
