Earlier this week we had some big news in the video game industry. Sure, you're probably all aware of what happened, but in case you missed it, Microsoft bought ZeniMax Studios. We forgive you if you're unfamiliar with ZeniMax Studios, but it's a company that owns several video game development studios. Included in the mix were MachineGames, Tango Gameworks, id Software, Bethesda Softworks and Arkane Studios. It cost Microsoft over $7 billion and they're probably ready for those studios to start developing exclusive projects under the Xbox umbrella.
While we don't know exactly what each studio is working on, it looks like Arkane Studios is gearing up for their next project. Right now Arkane Studios is in full development Death Loop, a game that will still be a PC and timed exclusive on PlayStation 5. This game is expected to release sometime in 2022, but after that there is no no official announcements from Arkane in what we can expect. Still, it looks like they're hiring a few employees to prepare for something new.
Development studios are hiring all the time, so it's nothing out of the ordinary, but with Microsoft's purchase of the studio, it's likely that they'll be heading for another next-gen release. Interestingly, they are looking for a Graphics Engineer who is familiar with Unreal Engine 4. It may seem like the studio is moving to another game engine which before has typically used the Void Engine based on id Tech's Engine.
Again, there's not much we can make out about what Arkane is up to but with Death's Loop nearing its release, chances are they'll have an idea of what it's up to. Then you have to go to Microsoft. We may get a glimpse of this one soon, but at the moment it looks like the job postings don't offer any insight into what might come out of this company next.
