" We'll see "
Naughty Dog may have more in store for The Last of Us surpassing its second part. Creative director Neil Druckmann said there's a preview of what's to come after The Last of Us Part II, though it's not in the works at this time.
Druckmann and co-writer Halley Gross appeared on the Script Apart podcast (thanks, IGN) to discuss writing 2022's The Last of Us Part II. It's a long look at the sequel's writing process, including major themes and discussions of some pretty significant story moments (yes, spoiler warning) and talk about the upcoming HBO series.
However, when the topic of a follow-up comes up, Druckmann says the topic has come up, although there's a lot of work to be done to create one because, as he notes, "these games take a lot of To do ".
"I don't know what I want to reveal... [Halley Gross] and I've written a plan for a story, which we're not doing, but hopefully one day can see the light of day, which explores a bit what happens after this game,” Druckmann said. " We will see. "
Druckmann notes that there are a few "structural and thematic themes" that Naughty Dog should stick to if it made a third game in the Last of Us series. Patterns are starting to define themselves in a series, and it looks like Naughty Dog explores what could be next.
A recent report indicated that it will be a PlayStation 5 remake of The Last of Us, although nothing has been officially announced yet. With The Last of Us Part II now in rear view, it will be interesting to see where the studio goes next.
