In wonderful news for 2D fighting fans, country-developer Bread has officially announced a brand new entry in its cult anime fighting game series Melty Blood. Launching later in 2022 on PS4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch, Melty Blood: Type Lumina will see new characters gearing up for some magical melee action.
The new sequel, the first major release since 2022 of Melty Blood Actress Again Current Code, will retain the typical one-on-one 2D combat action that is the series' hallmark, but will be built on an all-new engine. for the franchise's HD visual. start. Players will be able to choose from one of 10 initial characters, including new fighters from the upcoming visual novel Tsukihime: A Piece of Blue Glass Moon, which will be released in August. The smaller overall slate reflects the distinctly adaptive nature of the new game, focusing solely on the narrative and cast of the upcoming VN.
Modes confirmed for Melty Blood: Type Lumina include typical Vs. Time Attack and Survival, plus a full story mode. Details are sparse on the fighter's engine and mechanics, but country-Bread assures the player that Type Lumina will retain Melty Blood's distinctive style, while adding - or replacing - some in-game combat mechanics. is "Rapid Beat", which will see players repeatedly hammer specific buttons for sustained attacks - which sounds suspiciously like Auto-Combo.

Although Melty Blood was likely destined to remain on the cult/niche side of the fighting game community, it always had its devoted army of followers. As such, news of a new entry will be both a surprise and a delight, and it looks like it won't be long before fans are back in the ring once again.
